Heart of Art David Williams is a man of many artistic lives.
David Williams has jazz in his blood.
Gypsy jazz is a combination of American swing music, jazz tunes and Tin Pan Alley embellished with Django's gypsy background and Grappelli's Parisian sense of cafe music." Accordingly, Gypsy Jazz is a rousing, soulful set of Reinhardt originals and pop standards, all rendered in Williams's intricate, virtuoso picking style.
The songs are uniformly well crafted, ranging in style from jumpin' jazz to old-time blues, from the big band style of the '30s to the solo acoustic singer-songwriter genre. Despite the fact that such a variety can, in the hands of some musicians, result in a very fragmented album, Williams and his cohorts turn it into a definite positive - an eclectic, but smoothly so, variety of music that you'll listen to again and again.
David Williams, holding a Ph.D. in English, has taught creative writing as a visiting artist at a number of universities and is a long-time gigging musician. Both of those backgrounds contribute to the quality of this recording. He's a member of The Hot Club Of The Rockies, and plays numerous stringed instruments. His guitar playing, whether in the hot-licks, gypsy-jazz stylings of Django Reinhardt or tastefully executed blues riffs, is top-notch. In addition to his instrumental skill, he has a very listenable voice, with occasional hints of Leon Redbone or early Tom Waits, but, to my ear, more enjoyable than either.
Paul Mimlitsch - Guitar/ Looping: As a member of the exploratory jazz trio "Adelante" (with percussionist/ bassist J. Jody Janetta and horn player Dan Osterweil) Paul was a fixture in the New jersey and Philadelphia area improvisational/ electronic music scene. Recently relocated, from New Jersey, to Evergreen Colorado, and performing solo, his music reflects an eclectic blend of influences including jazz, blues, free improv., and electro-ambient. Favoring music of an exploratory nature he counts as major sources of inspiration Pat Martino, Pharoah Sanders, John and Alice Coltrane, and Steve Tibbetts. Current projects include "Concept", an exploratory jazz duo featuring horn player Richard Ball, and "LightsEdgeProject", an avant garde duo featuring electro-cornetist Chris Mandel
Jerry Schillinger is a guitarist who once played with Chuck Berry at Red Rocks. Jerry also played with a locally famous band named The Roadrunners. They had a local hit song "Roadrunning" back in the early 60's. The Roadrunners also recorded a promo album for the Ford Mustang in 1964 at London studios. Jerry also recorded with Gary Paxton in Hollywood California at Nashville West Studios.

Best Emerging Artist at King Biscuit Festival 2004. Raw Country Blues. Hill country stomping with Delta Sliding. Covers of Fred McDowell, Furry Lewis, Rainie Burnette, Robert Johnson combined with award winning originals.
Also performing at the SECOND ANNUAL GREELEY BLUES FEST in 2006. Mason began his solo career in South Carolina and was quickly dubbed "Big John" by locals for his enormous stage presence and his "commanding Southern voice" as described by Blues Revue magazine. Dropping the moniker and moving back to his home state of Colorado, Mason recorded his debut album "Walking Tracks" and a second, "Mason & Hundt." Both feature enlivening originals where Mason "always turns in vocals as compelling as his playing (Blues Revue)" and covers of Robert Johnson, Elizabeth Cotten, Bukka White, Charlie Patton and Mississippi John Hurt, artists Mason sites as fundamental influences.
In 2001 Mason won the esteemed Crossroads Acoustic Blues Competition at the Telluride Blues Festival and has been invited back each year since to perform and teach workshops. Recently fans of Jimmie Vaughn, John Mayall, Joan Osborne, Pat Green and Alana Davis have enjoyed Mason's tunes when he opened for those artists. Mason endorses John Pearse Strings and National Reso-Phonic Guitars and was recently featured in National's "Artists in Resonance" audio catalog.
